Pierce students celebrate Georgia Connections Academy in Duluth

Five students from Pierce County recently graduated from Georgia Connections Academy during an in-person event at Gas South Arena in Duluth.

Local graduates include Daniel Thigpen Jr., Carson Yawn and Mallory Yawn from Blackshear and Mikala Jewett from Bristol. The other student from the area did not wish to be included.

The five Pierce County students were among the 680 graduates of the Class of 2025 to receive their high school diplomas as members of the statewide public virtual school and were celebrated for their achievement, determination, hope and forward-thinking.

Collectively, the Georgia Connections Academy Class of 2025 graduates earned more than $16 million in scholarships and awards and have a wide variety of post-graduation plans. They include attending 2- or 4-year college, pursuing vocational training, enlisting in military service, entering the workforce, and taking a gap year.

The graduates and their families chose the full-time, tuition-free, online school for K-12 students throughout Georgia for a more personalized and flexible education that enabled them to thrive academically while working in an environment that served them best.

Enrollment is currently open for Georgia Connections Academy's 202526 school year, and capacity is limited in certain grades. Families interested in Georgia Connections Academy are encouraged to attend an online information session to learn more, ask questions and discover if virtual school is the right fit for their children.
