Colby Thornton was recently named head coach of the Pierce County Middle School football team.
The new coach is homegrown and is a 2014 graduate of PCHS, where he played for the Bears and made all region team. Thornton and his wife, Lane, have two children, Elley, 8, and Hanes, 3.
Thornton has been in education for five years. He coached varsity and middle school tennis and has coached recreation league football for four years.
“I am excited about the opportunity,” he said. “One of my goals in life is to be a good mentor to the young men I coach.”
Thornton will succeed Shannon Batten, who was recently hired at PCHS as the new boys’ varsity basketball coach.
