Wawa announces its grand opening for Memorial Dr.

Wawa will hold the grand opening of its second store in Waycross at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 16 at 1725 Memorial Drive Memorial Drive.

The Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain, issued a media release Tuesday afternoon (June 17) announcing the opening. The store was approved for its priviledge license later in the day during the second bimonthly meeting of the Waycross City Commission in City Hall.

Like its store at 1810 South Georgia Parkway West, the license is for beer and wine package sales. The first store opened Thursday morning, May 15.

Doors open on the second store at 8 a.m., with the first 100 or so receiving a limited edition T-shirt while supplies last. Later, there will be remarks from local officials as well as from Wawa representatives prior to product giveaways and a ribbon cutting.

Members of the Waycross Police and Fire Departments will engage in a “Hoagies for Heroes” competition as part of the celebration. The team from WPD won the sandwich-building contest at the first store’s grand opening.

see WAWA, Page 8 The Waycross outlets are part of an extensive entry into the Georgia over the last six months. The first Georgia store opened November 14, 2024 in Bainbridge with other outlets following in Jesup, Hinesville, Brunswick and Pooler before Waycross. Other stores are planned for Valdosta and Albany.
