(The Patterson City Council discussed and/or voted on the following items during their monthly meeting Thursday, June 19. The meeting was delayed a week due to a scheduling conflict.)
Lease agreement: The council approved leasing the Scurry Building in the old downtown area to Chris Sandroni at a rate of $100 per month. Sandroni plans to open and operate a thrift store at the location.
Annual appointments: The city council approved its annual appointments for 2025 including Laura Kate Dixon as city clerk, June Echols Bennett as clerk of court and water and sewer clerk, Adam Ferrell as city attorney, Emily Hadaway as public works coordinator and administrative assistant, Hurst & Hurst as city auditor, Jim McGee as municipal court judge, Harris Certified Public Accountants as city accountant, Nick Strickland as police chief and Tyler Stokes as public works superintendent and fire chief.
Eagle Station appointment: An item marked Eagle Station appointment was struck from the agenda without comment.
Tyre Bridge Road speed bumps: Ala Mae Myles came before the council to again ask that speed bumps be installed on Tyre Bridge Road to slow traffic speeding through the neighborhood. The council referred the matter for discussion at a work session today, Wednesday, June 25.
Logan Sharpe resolution: The council tabled approval of a resolution in memory of Logan Sharpe. The council referred the resolution for discussion at a work session scheduled for today, Wednesday, June 25.
Department reports: Public works superintendent and fire chief Tyler Stokes announced work on the storage building and tennis court at Patterson City Park is slated to get underway next week. He also said new lift stations are scheduled for delivery by October 31. He also announced the department had flushed city hydrants. Stokes said the fire department responded to six fire calls and one medical assistance call in May. Patterson Volunteer Fire Department also hosted training for the Pierce County Volunteer Fire Department and Blackshear Volunteer Fire Department in May. Police Chief Nick Strickland reported his department responded to 31 calls in May including 23 calls for service. The department made eight traffic stops and issued one citation. City Clerk Laura Kate Dixon had nothing to report.
Next meeting: A work session is planned for 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 25, at Eagle Station. The next regular monthly meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 10, and will also be held at Eagle Station.
