Pierce’s Lane named top senior Olympian

Seniors from the Pierce and Bacon County Senior Centers recently came together at Laura Walker Park for a day of fun, fellowship and friendly competition during the annual Senior Olympics.

Guests were welcomed by Pierce County Director Lynn Platt and Bacon County Director Chris Williams. The event began with opening prayer led by Elder Jackie Wallace, followed by game instructions as athletes prepared for the day’s activities.

Participants rotated through four competitive stations where scores were kept at each stop. After all the events were completed, everyone gathered indoors for an awards ceremony.

Christine Lane from Pierce County earned top honors as the overall female winner, while Calvin Smith from Bacon County was recognized as the top male athlete.

Fueling the athletes for the day were grill masters Jamie Williams and Charles Williamson. Guests were served hotdogs and all the fixings. Dessert featured delicious JJ Cookies.

Stacey Thrift from Hospice Satilla joined the celebration, sponsoring several door prizes and helping coordinate the festivities. She was joined by Hospice Satilla Junior Board members Cayden Smith, Jayden Chancey and JV Manabat as well as volunteers Karen Herndon, Jackson Waters, Sterling Stankowitz, Rachel Wade and Sherry Griffin, all of whom helped make the day full of smiles, sportsmanship, and community spirit seniors and volunteers alike won’t soon forget.
