(The Pierce County Board of Commissioners discussed and/or voted on the following during a called meeting Tuesday, June 10. ) Courthouse roof: Commissioners approved the low bidder of Howell Roofing of Waycross to replace the courthouse roof. Howell will be paid $58,165 for the work. Other bidders were Pyramid Roofing of Brunswick in the amount of $110,000 and Brantley Roofing of Waycross in the amount of $136,800. Facilities director Chris Bond made the recommendation after reviewing all three bids.
Subdivision on Ware Street: Commissioners approved a request by Grey Jax Investments for a new subdivis ion off of Ware Street. Developer Clay Thomas spoke in favor of the rezoning saying he wanted to help Pierce County grow. There was no public opposition to the proposed subdivision during the public hearing.
County employee insurance: Commiss ioners approved renewing employee insurance with the current provider, Anthem, for a term beginning July 1 and continuing through June 30, 2026.
Liability insurance:
Commissioners approved a one time annual payment of $356,282 to Association County Commissioners of Georgia for liability insurance coverage for the county.
Next meeting: The next regular commission meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center in Blackshear. The meeting is delayed a week due to the Independence Day holiday.
