Planning Commission Highlights

The Pierce County Planning Commission discuss and/or voted on the following during their regular monthly meeting Monday, May 12.

Meadow Circle rezoning: The planning commission recommending denying a request from Sunflower Childcare to rezone 0.46 acres on Meadow Circle from single family residential to commercial. The Peacock family is the applicant and they made the request for the rezoning to expand a child care center at that location. There was no public comment on the request. Planning commission members voted to deny the request as the change would amount to spot zoning placing a business in the middle of a residential area. The request was denied by the county commission at their June 3 regular meeting. ( See related coverage Ware Street Subdivision: The planning commission tabled a request by Grey Jax Investments for a proposed subdivision on Ware Street. Clay Thomas is the applicant. The request was tabled due to missing approvals from the Environmental Protection Division and review of a drainage plan. There was no public comment on the request. The county commission approved the request during a called meeting June 10. ( See related coverage.)

Next meeting: The planning commission held its regular, monthly meeting at 10:30 am. Monday, June 9 at the courthouse annex on Nichols Street. ( See related coverage in a future edition of The Times.)
