Ware budget tops $50.5m; BOE votes Tuesday, June 24

The Ware County Commission will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m., today (Wednesday, June 18) to receive comments on a proposed $50,582,475 budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26.

The forum will be at the commission’s chambers in Suite 227 of the Ware County Administration Building, 305 Oak Street. Commissioners have scheduled a called meeting for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26 to vote on the issue in order to meet the June 30 deadline for filing with the office of the Georgia Department of Revenue.

The new fiscal year begins Tuesday, July 1.

The proposed budget is a little more than $2 million more than the FY 24-25 sheet of $49.066 million.

Taxes represent approximately $25.5 million of the revenue for the ledger. Charges for services represent just more than $4 million of the budget.

Nearly half of the budget — $15.86 million — covers public safety. Of that figure, $6.188 million is for the Ware County Jail, $4.26 million for the Sheriff’s Office, $2.85 million for emergency medical service and $1.9 for the fire department.

The Ware County Board of Education will vote on its proposed FY 25-26 budget during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, June 24.

The proposed budgets General Fund is $108,030,619 with $22,574,012 in Special Revenue Funds and $32,600,000 in Capital Project Funds.

A work session Monday, June 23 precedes the meeting Tuesday. Both meetings begin at 6 p.m. at the board office, 1301 Bailey Street, and are open to the public.

Tuesday night’s meeting will be livestreamed. To locate the Livestream link, visit www.ware.k12.ga.us, click Menu, and select Board of Education Meeting Livestreams.

The meeting agenda is posted prior to the meeting, and the minutes are posted as well, on the system web page at www.ware.k12.ga.us under the District and e-Board links.

The Waycross City Commission was to consider its next budget of $41.188 million Tuesday, June 17 at its bi-monthly meeting.
