In an effort to combat a recent rash of parked vehicles being entered, the Waycross Police Department has developed a “9 p.m. Routine” for car owners.
Many of the break-ins are the result of people simply leaving their vehicles unlocked, said WPD’s social media item announcing the #9PMRoutine program.
“Thieves check car doors until they find on that is unlocked. Be our partner in fighting crime by locking your doors and calling 911 immediately if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood,” the post said.
The post asked car owners every evening by 9 p.m. to make sure:
• Guns removed from vehicle;
• Valuables removed from vehicle;
• Keys removed from vehicle;
• Lock doors. If you have questions or would like more information, call the WPD’s nonemergency number at (912) 287-2921.
