Karen Miller Mathis

WAYNESVILLE — Karen Miller Mathis, 65 of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025 under the care of Golden Isles Hospice.

The Glynn County native was a Baptist and lived in Waynesville for the past 20 years. She worked previously for the Jekyll Island Authority beautifying the grounds and drove the school bus for Glynn County Schools.

Mrs. Mathis loved the beach, river, camping, karaoking, and spending time with her “ adopted grandchildren”. Her husb and, Willie E. “Bill” Mathis preceded her in death, She was preceeded in death by her parents, Stevie and Jeanette Miller; her husband, Willie E. “Bill” Mathis; a sister, Cynthia Miller; and two brothers, Steven Wayne and Leslie Clyde Miller.

Survivors are her daughter, Amanda Mathis of Waynesville; a sister, Stephanie (Aaron) Dixon of Waynesville; four nieces, Christina (Trevor) McKenzie, Abby Miller, Daisy (M.J.) Lassiter and Kait (Myra) Miller; three nephews, Greg Miller, Dustin (Tracy) Holzman and Colby Lassiter; several great nephews and a great niece whom she dearly loved and adopted them as her “grandchildren”, Zachary, Steven, Noah, Landen and Lily Belle.

A funeral service will be held today (Wednesday, June 18, 2025) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart Chapel.

Interment will follow in the George Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her family and friends.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
