Pierce County realtors facing charges in death of baby

BLACKSHEAR — Local realtors Dustin Sauls and Cierra Chancey have been arrested for Concealing a Death and Possession of Cocaine in the September 28, 2022 death of their daughter, sixth-month-old Madi Sauls.

According to a press release by the Douglas office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Sauls, 41, and Chancey, 36, both of Blackshear, were arrested by the GBI in Pierce County Friday, May 30, with the assistance of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Sauls and Chancey were booked into the Appling County Jail.

The GBI was originally requested by the Baxley Police Department to investigate the death of the Sauls’ child. The couple was living in Baxley at the time.

Preliminary information indicated the parents delayed reporting the death and were in possession of a substance later determined to be cocaine.

An autopsy was completed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler. The results of the autopsy has not been made public.

The GBI thanked the Baxley Police Department, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Appling County is in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit.
