ALMA — John Richard “Rickie” Mullis, age 67, of Alma, passed away peacefully Friday, May 30, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born May 23, 1958, in Bacon County, Mullis was the beloved son of John Ronald “Ronnie” Mullis and Shelba Jean Mullis Bowen. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Mullis, and his stepfather, Coye Bowen.
Mullis was an avid fisherman who found great joy and peace in the outdoors. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends, who will remember him for his kind heart and generous spirit.
He is survived by his loving mother, Shelba Jean Mullis Bowen; two devoted sons, Ryan Mullis (Janine) of Alma and Justin Mullis (Michelle) of Nicholls; five grandchildren, John Ryelen Mullis, Chaden Mullis, Aiden Mullis, Chase Perkins, and Lindsey Mullis; and four great grandchildren, Mackenleigh Perkins, Kash Perkins, Bella Perkins, and Paxton Parkerson; one sister, Rhonda Mullis Herndon of Alma; niece, Brooke Miller (Erik) of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephew Craig Herndon (Rikki) of Jacksonville.
He is also survived by a lifelong friend and brother by heart, Bentley Carter (Elondia) of Alma; greatnieces, Brianna Sparks and Lorelai Herndon; and a great-great nephew, Zane Alexander. He also leaves behind several cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and two stepbrothers, Tommy Bowen (Michelle) and Chris Bowen (Adam).
A memorial service honoring his life was held Wednesday, June 4 in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Woods and the Rev. Ron Sweatt officiating.
Mullis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
