Amended sub-division ordinance in effect

NAHUNTA — The Brantley County Commission has amended its Sub-division Ordinance forcing developers to pave all roads for 25 acres or less.

County Manager Joey Cason presented a resolution to amend the current ordinance, Section 602.3 of the Sub-division Regulations and delete Section 902 Sub-division Regulations, during the Tuesday, June 3 work session. Commissioners approved the amended resolution during the Thursday, June 5 monthly meeting putting it into effect immediately.

According to the resolution, lots of 25 acres or less shall not be improved unless all proposed streets are paved in accordance with the paving standards set forth in this ordinance.

Unpaved streets, whether proposed for private maintenance or public dedication, shall not be permitted in any subdivision approved on or after June 5, 2025.

Cason said the other major provision is that if the subdivision is more than 25 acres, it can remain as a dirt road. But there are standards that must be met as far as those are concerned in the revision of the ordinance.
