Ms. Connie Lee of Hoboken had the surprise of her life May 23rd.
Her six children and in-laws surprised her with an early 85th birthday celebration. Ms. Lee’s birthday is May 26.
The children and in-laws consisted of Dawn (Dennis) Crews, Beverley (Stacy) Tyre, Greg (Tracy) Lee, Sidney (Janet) Lee, Gina (Vernon) Crews and Melanie Herrin.
Her children had originally planned to take her to one of her favorite local restaurants, but due to Memorial Day weekend the restaurant was closed.
So, at the last minute, it was decided the family would grill at her son Greg’s residence and use his barn for the setting.
While Greg and Sidney grilled, Ms. Lee’s daughters and in-laws decorated a small, intimate setting using China provided by Gina.
Each of the children brought a dish and had a meal consisting of grilled pork steaks, beans, fresh red potatoes, garden salad and rolls. A homemade sour cream and buttercream pound cake was made for Ms. Lee’s birthday by Dawn.
The family said they had a really good time. They added they had never been able to surprise their mama, but she was at a total loss for words!
Melanie, the youngest daughter, told Ms. Lee she needed to go to Greg’s to pick up something for him. So, as they pulled around to the barn, Ms. Lee saw her children and knew something was up, but she was not quite sure what.
Ms. Lee said she had to go let Kristen at KC Salon in Hoboken fix her hair and get her “all prettied up.”
Her daugher, Beverley, fixed her a cake after church Sunday. A wonderful time was had by all and the children were finally able to surprise their mama after all of these years.
