Gomez chosen state officer, Moore wins title
MACON — Ware County High School’s Jose Gomez was selected to serve on the 2025-26 Georgia FFA State Officer Team and Lindsy Moore were recognized as a state champion during this year’s 97th Georgia FFA Convention.
The event was held April 24 through April 26 at the Macon Centreplex.
Gomez joins Colquitt County’s Anna Grace Hunter as South Region Vice Presidents. The other six members were State President Remiya Stephens of Rutland, Secretary Levi Layton from Central of Carroll, North Region Vice-Presidents Quinn Pendley of Clarke Central and Leyton Morris from Morgan County, and Central Region Vice-Presidents Aly Corzine from Veterans and Evan Hardeman from Montgomery.
State Officers are elected to serve the 80,000+ FFA members across the state of Georgia. Their time will be spent planning, developing and hosting various leadership conferences throughout the year as well as traveling to chapters to provide leadership workshops and interact with members.
State officers also provide assistance at various agricultural education events throughout the year and serve as the face of Georgia FFA, meeting with Georgia’s business and industry leaders as well as many elected officials.
Specialty Animal Production Proficiency
Moore captured top honors in Specialty Animal Production Proficiency.
Proficiency awards are granted to FFA members who have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Specialty Animal Production involves the use of the best management practices available to efficiently produce and market specialty animals including bees, goats, mules, donkeys, miniature horses, meat rabbits, mink, worms, ostriches, emus, alpacas, or llamas. Placement experiences can be working at a zoo or at any specialty animal facility.
Poultry Evaluation
Lainee Gill placed third in the senior division Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE).
CDE awards are granted to FFA members and teams who have exhibited premier leadership, personal growth, and career success in a variety of competitions.
Prepared Public Speaking
Gomez placed fourth in senior division Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE).
Prepared Public Speaking LDE is designed to enhance the speaking skills of participants by encouraging civic participation and cultivation of a better knowledge of agriculture. Competitors present a speech before a panel of judges and respond to questions from the judges.
Discussion Meet
Tessa Dial was a finalist in the Discussion Meet Leadership Development Event (LDE).
The Discussion Meet LDE is designed to teach the three fundamental bases of discussion: constructive criticism, cooperation, and communication. The role of the contestants is to exchange ideas and information to solve a problem.
The Discussion Meet is patterned after the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmer Discussion Meet. Students discuss topics to foster constructive ideas and problem solve.
Agricultural Electrification
Grayson McPhaul was a runnerup in the Agricultural Electrification Career Development Event (CDE).
Participants in the Agricultural Electrification Career Development Event demonstrate the proper use of electrical tools, present a speech/demonstration on an electrical energy-related topic, answer problem solving questions pertaining to electrical wiring and rural electrification, and complete an assigned wiring problem based on The National Electrical Code.
