Ware County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are investigating a weekend shooting that wounded three people, Sheriff Carl James said in a news release Monday.
Patrol deputies responded about 1:23 a.m. Sunday, June 1 to a call regarding a shooting incident at a residence in the 1900 block of E. Washington Avenue. After arriving at the residence, it was determined numerous people had been attending a house party, and, as some people were leaving, a shooting happened about 100 yards west of the house. The deputies found no shooting victims at or near the residence where the gathering occurred, but did find multiple shell casings in the road as well as other evidence.
Deputies then went to another residence where three victims of the shooting had gone immediately after the incident. Three young women were found to have non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Two of the women were young adults, but the third female was a 14-year-old juvenile. Two of those wounded were flown to out-of-area hospitals from Memorial Satilla Health for further treatment, the release said.
None of the victims was identified by authorities.
“This shooting could’ve very easily ended the lives of at least three young women,” Sheriff James said. “The public has my reassurance that this case will be investigated to the fullest.”
WCSO Detectives responded shortly after the incident occurred to process the scene and take the lead on the investigation. Det. Dakota York and Blake Lewis are primarily responsible for the investigation, and they are being supervised by Det. Capt. Melissa “Missy” Thrift, the release said.
Detectives are pursuing all leads available, and have several promising ones they are currently following up, the release said.
