Sixteen Pierce County railroad crossings will be closed for repairs between June 16-July 2.
According to Southern Commercial Development LLC, the closures will be spread over the time frame and won’t all occur at the same time. The closures are part of a five-week track maintenance project by CSX Railroad in the Jesup subdivision, which includes Pierce, Charlton, Ware and Wayne Counties. Southern Commercial Development LLC of Lexington, SC is CSX’s contractor on the projects.
The project will include the installation of new railroad ties along parts of the CSX rail line.
Crossings in Pierce County that are scheduled to be closed for the repairs include Offerman Loop #1 (June 16), Oak Crossing Road, a private road (July 2) and Railroad Lane (July 3) all in the Offerman area. Zero Bay Road and Offerman Loop #2 are not scheduled for repairs in this project. Closures in the Patterson area include Dixon Street (June 17), Son Thomas Road (June 19) and Arron’s Way and Owens Road (June 23). The Main Street crossing (Georgia Highway 32) is not scheduled for maintenance in this project. Blackshear closures include Gilman Road (June 25), Grady and Keller Streets, Olin Manning Circle and Bowen Road (June 26), Homestead Road (June 30) and Midway Church Road (July 1). The Main Street crossing (Georgia Highway 15/121) is not scheduled for maintenance in this project. Altman Street was repaired earlier this year. The area near Trudie Road Underpass will have maintenance June 25, and a flagging operation will be necessary for motorists at that location. Work is being scheduled for the Oak Ridge Circle area behind Farr’s July 2. Oak Ridge Circle Crossing is the only public road in and out of the community.
Crossings will be closed anywhere from 2-5 days, depending on the type of maintenance they are set to receive.
Southern Commercial Development asks motorists to please keep in mind the estimated closure time frames are merely the best approximation that can be provides at this time.
“These dates are highly subject to change with or without notice simply due to many of the unforeseen circumstances that can occur in the field once the work begins,” according to a spokesperson for Southern Commercial Development.
