Camps keep kids physically and socially active

Make sure to sign your kids up for some of these activities below, before you start hearing the typical summer complaint of “I’m bored”. Events are listed according to date.

Library Summer Reading

Pierce County Public Library’s summer reading club will run June 2July 5, Earn prizes for reading weekly and be entered into the grand prize drawing. Sign up at the Pierce County library or go to http://trrl.beanstack.com/reader365

Swamp Science Program

Working with the Okefenokee Swap Park and the Okefenokee RSA, Pierce County Library will have a special science outreach program, Swamp at the Library, 4 p.m. June 9.

Splash Into Reading

A free literacy event will be held at Blackshear City Park and the Pierce Chamber of Commerce June 14, featuring free books, refreshments, games and interactive tables. Splash into summer reading from 11 a.m.-2p.m.

Dungeons and Dragons Mapmaking 

Adventurers ages 11-17 can unleash their inner mapmaker 11:30 a.m.

June 14 at the Pierce County Library’s DIY fantasy mapmaking event.

FBC Blackshear VBS 

First Baptist Church of Blackshear will host VBS June 16-20. The theme is “discovering the bigness of God in the smallest of things.” Activities will include worship, Bible study, music, dinner, crafts, games and more.

Anime Club Trivia 

For those ages 11-17 and crazy about anime, the Pierce County Library is hosting a trivia contest with prizes 11:30 a.m. June 21

Youmans Chapel VBS 

Youmans Chapel Baptist Church on Dean Still Road in Blackshear, will host VBS June 22-26. Supper served 5:15 p.m. each day. Classes for ages 3-adult. Nursery will also be provided. Adults will have a lesson each night followed by fellowship with games and desserts.

PCHS Boys Basketball Camp 

For boys in upcoming grades 3-8, learn basic skills of ball handling, passing, shooting and defensive/ offensive drills. $60 per child with $10 discount for siblings. 11 a.m.2 p.m. June 23-25. Must be registered by June 15 for t-shirt. For more info, email Coach Batten at [email protected]

Library Color Ball Battle 

An all-ages outdoor event where everyone uses color-filled powder balls to tag each other. 11:30 a.m. June 28 at the Pierce County Library. Please wear acceptable attire that you can get dirty.

Rec. Dept. to host soccer camp

Pierce Rec Department has opened registration for summer Brazilian soccer camp. Parents can sign their kids up for soccer fun with expert coaching and skill development in a safe, enriching environment.

Camp runs from July 21-July 25 with three time brackets. Full day: ages 914, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Half day: ages 7-14, 9 a.m. noon Future stars: ages 46, 3-4 p.m.

Location is Tiger Field, 705 College Ave. in BLackshear.

Stuckie’s to hold Summer Camp

Southern Forest World will host Stuckie’s Summer Camp July 28August 1. Each day will have a different speaker to teach kids facts about the forest. There will also be arts and crafts, free time and each camper will also receive a t-shirt. The cost is $45 per person. Applications can be found at southernforestworld.org.
