PCHS tennis teams defeat Tattnall and Toombs counties

It was a strong week for  Pierce County High School (PCHS) tennis, with nearly total victories for the Bears and Lady Bears.

Last Tuesday (Feb. 16) the Lady Bears overpowered Tattnall 5-0 and Bears overcame push back from Tattnall to secure a 4-1 win.

Grace Christopher won (6-0, 6-0) at number 1 singles. Rebecca Tyre won at number 2 singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-0. At number 3 singles Maura Kate Waters claimed 6-1 and 6-2 wins. Number 1 Doubles team Marli Walker and Mary Kathryn Cox faced resistance on the way to 6-4, 6-1 victories.

Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent also claimed wins (6-1, 6-0) for PCHS at number 2 doubles. Jeb Bradley (number 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0), J.C. Nimmer (number 2 singles, 6-1,6-2) and Aeden Carlson (number 3 singles, 6-4, 6-0) all snagged PCHS wins.

The nail-biter of the day was number 1 doubles.

Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson got beaten back 3-6 by Tattnall, but came back swinging in their second set with a 6-1 win. Tattnall recovered in Set 3, winning 3-6 and costing Hersey/Thompson the win.

Fortunately, number 2 doubles brought PCHS another lopsided victory. The combo of Grayson Rodgers and Garrett Page won 6-1, 6-2.

Thursday, Feb. 23 brought more sweeping victories for PCHS in a home match against Toombs.

Bradley secured 6-3, 6-3 wins at number 1 singles. J.C. Nimmer fended off his opponent at number 2 singles, winning 6-0,6-0.

Carlson nabbed PCHS another win (6-2, 6-3) at number 3 singles.

Number one doubles combo Hersey and Thompson beat out their Toombs opponents 6-0, 6-3. Rodgers and Page won 6-0, 6-0 at number 2 doubles, finishing PCHS boy’s clean sweep.

The Lady Bears were similarly successful.

At number 1 singles, Christopher pulled 6-3, 6-0 wins.Tyre got matching 6-3, 6-3 wins at number 2 singles. Walker claimed 6-1,6-0 wins for the Bears at  number 3 singles.

Taylor Sikes and Maura Kate Waters pulled 6-0, 6-1 scores over their competitors in number 1 doubles. At number 2 doubles Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent gave up no ground and walked away with 6-0, 6-0 wins.

PCHS Tennis will next face off against Brantley Thursday, March 2 at home.
