A commemoration ceremony in memory of Logan Sharpe was held last Sunday, May 25, near the first anniversary of his death. The event was held at the Edward “Bud” Newton Center in Patterson and included a candlelight ceremony and balloon release. Carla Arbery, Tanaka Stringer and Amaka Imamu of the Solo Advocacy Group and the Black Journey Foundation were speakers at the event. Both groups are made up of mothers who have lost children in tragic circumstances, including the aunt of Ahmad Arbery. Sharpe, 7, was struck and killed on Tyre Bridge Road, May 19, 2024. Dalton Cason has been charged with driving under the influence and the case will be heard June 19 in Pierce County State Court. Those in the group called for justice for Sharpe and are seeking to have the charges upgraded to vehicular homicide and want the case prosecuted in Superior Court by the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney. Sharpe’s mother, Shaunte’ Williams and grandmother, Minnie McBride, were recognized at the vigil.
