HORTENSE — An elderly Hortense woman and man were transported to Southeast Georgia Health Center in Brunswick after being involved in an accident on Hwy. 32.
Annie Goss, 85, was driving a 2017 Kia Forte LX eastbound on Hwy. 32 near the intersection of Cumberland Road Sunday, May 18. The vehicle hydroplaned striking a westbound 2011 LGT CONVT F150 truck driven by 25year-old Brandon Purdom of Blackshear at approximately 3:33 p.m.
According to the report of Georgia State Patrol Sergeant First Class Brandon Smith, Goss was traveling east in rainy conditions on Georgia 32 operating a vehicle with slick tires and traveling too fast for conditions.
The Goss vehicle hydroplaned and began rotating across the roadway crossing the center line and into the path of the Purdom vehicle. The right rear of the 2017 Kia Forte LX struck the front right of the 2011 LGT CONVT F150.
The impact separated the rear half of the Goss vehicle from the rest of the vehicle. After the initial impact, the 2017 Kia Forte LX rotated counterclockwise for 20 feet and struck the north guardrail face with the left rear and left front essentially simultaneously.
The vehicle continued traveling east for 33 feet along the north shoulder of the roadway coming to a final uncontrolled rest facing south, partially within the paved north shoulder and partially within the westbound lane of Georgia 32.
Mrs. Goss was transported to Southeast Georgia Health Center. Her passenger, 79-year-old Gary Goss, was also transported to Southeast Georgia Health System.
Purdom required no treatment. Traveling with Purdom were Brian Purdom, 25, and Tony Williams, 22. Neither required treatment.
