Three-vehicle crash injures two drivers

Two people were injured Tuesday, May 20 in a three-vehicle accident on Plant Avenue and Pinehurst Drive, said Capt. Benji Hersey, Waycross Police Department Patrol Section Commander.

Rachel Young Douglas, 67, of Blackshear, and Jula Vargas, 50, of Waycross, were transported to Memorial Satilla Health by Ware County EMS for their injuries. Douglas complained of pain while Vargas had visible injuries, Hersey said.

Terrence Macy, 44, of Millwood, the driver of the third vehicle involved, was not injured.

Douglas, in a red 2001 Pontiac Aztec, was driving south on Plant, attempting to cross the intersection of Pinehurst. Vargas, in a blue 2006 Expedition, was heading west on Morningside Drive crossing Plant. Macy was in a red 2017 Jeep Wrangler facing east waiting to turn left onto Plant.

Douglas failed to obey the intersection’s traffic signal and her Aztec struck the Expedition of Vargas causing it to overturn and hit Macy’s Jeep.

Douglas was cited for a red light violation, Hersey said. The accident was investigated by Officer Robert Jacobs.
