OFFERMAN — The first ever Mossy Pond Showdown Rodeo drew large crowds here Friday and Saturday nights.

Drake Dowling of Pierce County was among the cowboys riding bulls at the event. Jimmy Lydon also rode and raised $5,000 for the Pierce County Touchdown Club.

The champion bull rider was Dustin Herman of North Carolina while the champion bull fighter was Cole Phister of Iowa.

Dozens of vendors sold concessions, hats and western wear. There was also a mechanical bull, a bounce house and other activities for kids.

A fireworks show rounded out the event.

Mossy Pond owner Brad Arington said he was “very pleased” with the event.

“It may have been our first rodeo, but it definitely won’t be our last,” he quipped.
