Thanks to a grant from AgSouth, the agriculture program at Midway Elementary School has taken another step forward in enhancing hands-on learning opportunities for students. Under the guidance of Pierce County High School (PCHS) Ag Teachers Seth Prescott and John Ratliff, a crew from PCHS spent Monday and Tuesday constructing a brand-new greenhouse, marking a new milestone for the program.
Jesse Crews, Brody Roberson, Remington Brooks, Cameron Jones and Seth and John Ratliff put their skills to work, bringing the new greenhouse to life. “This addition to the agriculture department will serve as an invaluable resource, allowing our students to gain practical experience in greenhouse management, plant cultivation, and sustainable farming practices,” said Principal Brandi Todd.
The AgSouth grant, awarded earlier this year as a show of community support for agricultural education, made the project possible. The goal is to foster a deeper appreciation for agricultural science among students.
With the structure now ready for its first growing season, students and faculty alike are looking forward to utilizing the space to expand their knowledge and contribute to the future of agriculture.
