DAYTON BEACH, Fla. — A 54-year-old Hoboken, Ga., woman was killed and four other people suffered serious injuries when a vehicle ran off Interstate 4 near Daytona Beach, hit a tree and overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The wreck occurred at 10:49 a.m., Monday, May 12 westbound on I-4 at mile marker 125, said FHP Trooper Migdalisis Garcia.
Garcia said preliminary evidence showed a 2018 Ford Expedition was traveling west on I-4 when it ran off the road into the median. The SUV overturned several times after crashing into a tree.
The 54-year-old woman, identified as Rene Moore Dreggors, from Hoboken, Ga., was a passenger in the back seat. She was killed at the scene of the acc ident, troopers said.
The driver of the SUV, a 61-year-old man from Hoboken, Ga., was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with serious injuries, troopers said.
Three other passengers, all of Hoboken, included two men, 53 and 58, and another woman. They were also transported to Halifax Health with serious injuries, Garcia said The crash remains under investigation, Garcia said.
The Florida Highway Patrol DeLand office is not releasing any other details of the accident for up to 60 days.
