NPD traffic stop leads to arrest of 41-year-old woman from Camden Co.

NAHUNTA — A routine traffic stop for an improper turn turned into a Camden County woman’s arrest on two drug charges.

Nahunta Police Department’s Crime Suppression and Intelligence Unit (CSIU) conducted a traffic stop within the city limits of Nahunta at 9:52 p.m., Monday, May 12.

Dana Lynn Cross, 41 of Kingsland, was operating a 2012 Toyota Scion and was the lone occupant in the vehicle. During the stop, the CSIU investigator quickly determined that there was more to the encounter than a mere traffic offense.

The investigator requested consent to search the vehicle, which was denied by Ms. Cross. K-9 Quick was deployed for a free-air sniff of the vehicle.

The trained narcotics detection K-9 alerted on the vehicle, indicating the possible presence of illegal narcotics. A subsequent search revealed a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle.

Ms. Cross was placed under arrest for possession of drug-related objects. During transport to the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office jail, she informed the investigator she had methamphetamine hidden in her bra.

Upon arrival at the secure facility, the methamphetamine was recovered.

Ms. Cross was charged with Improper Turn, Possession of Drug-Related Objects and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Week after week, Nahunta CSIU investigators continue to make drug arrests involving drivers operating vehicles while in possession of, or under the influence of, dangerous narcotics.

“Now, that could mean they’re not reading the papers, or maybe they just think they won’t get caught,” said Chief Brad Todd. “Our officers are diligently working to intercept dangerous drugs and the individuals transporting them — and K-9 Quick loves what she does. We will continue our proactive approach to keeping both the citizens and visitors of Nahunta safe.”
