MACON — Brantley County High School’s senior division Forestry Field Day team and the Junior Forestry team were recognized with top honors in their respective categories here during this year’s 97th Georgia FFA Convention.
The event was held April 24 through April 26 at the Macon Centreplex.
BCHS’s senior team was the winner in the Forestry Field Day Career Development Event (CDE). Banks County and Pierce County followed in second- and third-place.
CDE awards are granted to FFA members and teams who have exhibited premier leadership, personal growth and career success in a variety of competitions.
In the Forestry Field Day Career Development Event, students who participate in this CDE demonstrate their skills in diagnosing forest disorders, managing forests and forest inventory and applying approved silviculture practices.
Brantley County finished second in the junior division category behind Echols County.
BCHS captured the junior division of the Forestry Career Development Event (CDE). Brantley County was followed by Central-Carroll and Jackson Trail.
Brantley County’s senior team placed third behind Mary Persons and Banks County.

Cora Crews finished runner-up in the Forage Production Proficiency category.
Proficiency awards are granted to FFA members who have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Participants in the Forage Production Proficiency implement best management practices to produce and market forage crops such as non-grain sorghum, alfalfa, clover, brome grass, orchard grass, grain forages, corn or grass silages, and pastures.
