Suspicious death being investigated

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death, after the body of a local man was discovered off Big House Road early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Ramsey Bennett, Tristin Aspinwall, 23, of Blackshear, was found unresponsive near a side-by-side SUV in what was originally believed to be a vehicle accident.

Aspinwall was discovered on a farm access road/timber lane in the vicinity of Cleve and Meadow Wood Roads west of Blackshear about daybreak Sunday morning, May 18.

Further investigation led law enforcement officers to label the death as suspicious. Reportedly, Aspinwall sustained injuries that were not consistent with an accident.

Sheriff Bennett declined comment citing the ongoing investigation.

Aspinwall was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner William Wilson. Aspinwall’s body has been sent to the Georgia State Crime Lab in Pooler for an autopsy.

Law enforcement officials said a determination on the cause of death would not be made until today (Wednesday, May 21) at the earliest.

Aspinwall leaves behind a fiance and a young son.

Arrangements for Aspinwall are pending, but will be with Pearson-Dial Funeral Home of Blackshear.
