The Pierce 4-H SAFE Air Rifle Teams traveled to Waycross, April 12 for the Georgia 4-H Air Rifle and Air Pistol Championship. Pierce had two teams complete in the Junior and Senior Precision Air Rifle category and one athlete compete in the Air Pistol category. Ten teams and 64 individuals competed in the match with Pierce County bringing home top honors and 15 awards.
The Pierce 4-H SAFE Junior Precision Air Rifle Team placed first with a 1617 team score. Team members included JerriBeth Mullis, Aleeah Eason, Eli Locklear, and Allie Herrin. This team was recognized as the State Champion Junior Precision Air Rifle Team at the awards ceremony.
JerriBeth Mullis placed first individually in the Junior Precision category with an overall score of 548. She also placed second in the prone position with a 193, third in the kneeling position with a 184, and second in the standing position with a 171. Mullis was recognized as the State Champion Junior Precision Air Rifle Shooter at the awards ceremony.
Aleeah Eason placed second individually with a 538, third in prone, and first in standing. Eli Locklear placed third individually with a 531, first in prone, and first in kneeling. Allie Herrin placed third in the Standing Position.
The Pierce 4-H SAFE Senior Precision Air Rifle Team placed fourth with a 1499 team score. Team members included Carson Caswell, Gad DePratter and Andee Lovell.
For the first time, Pierce County 4-H competed in the State Air Pistol Match. Carson Caswell placed tenth with a 369 and one center shot.
The Pierce County 4-H SAFE Program is led by Head Coach Rebecca Mullis. The Pierce County 4-H SAFE Air Rifle and Air Pistol discipline was led by Coach Casey Caswell. This was their first season leading the programs, respectively.
Both coaches and all the students involved in the The Pierce County 4-H SAFE Program expressed their thanks to Ware County High School Rifle Program for providing resources and a space to practice this season. “Without their support,” said Coach Mullis, “this season would not have been possible.”
The Pierce County 4-H SAFE Air Rifle Program is offered to students grades 7-12. If you are interested in participating in the 2026 season, orientation will be held October 2025.
