Henry James ‘Jim’ Barber

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Mr. Henry James Barber “Jim,” son of James and Carolyn Barber, was born on February 11, 1941, in Waycross, and was sent to his eternal home in Heaven on May 10, 2025, in Beaufort, S.C.

Sports brought him to Atlanta, where he played football under Coach Bobby Dodd at Georgia Tech, and met his wife, Sylvia. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of Captain. He began his sales career with Owens Corning Fiberglass and retired from Springs Industries in Rock Hill, S.C.

Barber enjoyed skiing and biking with his dear friends. He moved to Beaufort to be closer to family, and enjoyed cruises with his wife and family. He was an avid

tinkerer and always asked thought-provoking questions. Barber never missed an opportunity to meet someone new and shake their hand. He loved to tell them how special they were and that he was blessed for meeting them. He was an active member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort, and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Jim is survived and missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Sylvia; his children Jim (Jessica), Elizabeth (Todd), and Brad (Angie); his grandchildren Connor (Georgia), Ethan, Nick, Emma, Mary Amelia, Elaina, and Clara; and one sister-inlaw, Pat Barber.

They carry with them the spirit and love of their husband, father, and grandfather, and take great peace with his favorite Bible verse, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5: 13) Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Barber.

Graveside services, recognizing his military service, will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for charitable donations be made to the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Donations can be done online by visiting https://bcob.org/ and selecting the 'Give' tab on the site.

Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
