Special to the WJH Music Funeral Home is serving as the financing sponsor of the monthly Waycross Community Blood Drive scheduled Monday, May 19.
This month’s effort is being staged a week earlier than normal because Memorial Day falls on the drive’s normal day of the month.
The drive will be held from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m., at the Waycross Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 2401 Knight Avenue.
“We understand the need for emergency blood is critical and we’re so happy to be a part of the mission to increase blood donorship,” said Rodney Music, founder of Music Funeral Home.
Added Gary Griffin, a Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteer: “Music’s corporate sponsorship is appreciated as it provides us the means of rewarding donors with cash door prizes.”
Among other perks, Monday’s donors will be given a solar lantern, courtesy of the American Red Cross, “It’s another way of saying thanks to the donors who have made the monthly Waycross drive the most productive blood drive in the state,” said Tina Ethridge, district Red Cross blood services representative.
The Red Cross is asking more citizens to roll up their sleeves to combat the blood shortage crisis.
Less than three percent of the American population ever gives blood, although in the Southern U.S. participation is slightly higher.
Every two seconds, someone somewhere needs blood.
It's a basic truth that “when someone gives, someone lives,” the Red Cross stresses.
After giving blood, attendees at Monday's effort will enjoy refreshments contributed by Domino’s Pizza, Waycross Coca-Cola (fruit juices and water), the Red Cross (snacks) and the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers (doughnuts and pastries).
