BCHS hosting Class A DI tennis semis Wednesday

THOMASTON — Brantley County’s tennis teams had their championship aspirations put on hold with Friday’s Georgia High School Association announcement postponing the tournament.

The GHSA cancelled Saturday’s semifinals and championships at the Rome Tennis Center with the May 9 announcement just after lunch with many schools en route to Rome.

GHSA’s decision was based on the the forecast of rain in northwest Georgia over the weekend.

The semis and finals will now be played at the highest seeded schools. Top-seed Brantley County’s girls and boys would host both rounds.

The semifinals will be played Wednesday, May 14 at Brantley County. Buffer dates of Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16 have been set aside for the semifinals in the event of additional rain this week.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 17 and Monday, May 19.

The Class A Division I girls’ “Final Four” has three Region 1 members playing. No. 1 seed Lady Herons will host Region 1 foe and No. 12 seed Berrien today (Wednesday, May 14) at 2 p.m. Seventh-seed Region 1 member Jeff Davis travels to sixth-seed Armuchee. The winners face off at the highest remaining seed.

The Lady Herons, the 2024 Class AA state champion, are making a fourth consecutive appearance in the “Final Four” and fifth overall (2014, 202225).

The top-seeded Herons are hosting fifth-seed Model Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m., while seventh- seed ACE Charter travels to third-seed Bleckley County. The winners face off at the highest remaining seed.

The Herons are also making their fourth consecutive appearance in the “Final Four” and 10th overall (2008, 2011-13, 2016, 2018, 2022-25). BCHS lost in the 2022 finals to Westminster.
