HOBOKEN — City officials proposed having curfew set for the Community Center and City Park during its May monthly meeting.
The issue arose when serveral people have been discovered sleeping on a bench at each site, stated Mayor Joey Crews during the May 6 meeting.
“We were having the Community Center cleaned after an event the night before and there was someone there at 7:30 in the morning sleeping and it scared our cleaning person,” said Crews. “I think we just need to put a time limit of being on the premises.”
City Attorney Adam Ferrell wasn’t sure if there was anything on the books for curfew to tos areas.
“You could pass something, a simple ordinance about that setting the times,” said Ferrell.
Councilman Kenny Jordan said many parks will have signs saying hours are “sunrise to sunset.”
Councilman Jimmy Ray the Community Center should be off limits once the renters finish their event.
“If they (renters) leave at 9:30 (p.m.) then that’s when the grounds around the Community Center should be closed,” Ray said.
City Clerk Linda Henderson said there is already a time of 11 p.m. for clearance of the Community Center. Henderson added the closing time is on the agreement sheet and has been for 12 years.
Attorney Ferrell said he could do a simple ordinance establishing times that can be enforced.
“I can have one ready for the next meeting,” said Ferrell. “Y’all can look over it and see if anything needs to be added or taken out.
