New recreation complex: Recreation board members discussed the new recreation complex on County Farm Road and renovations and improvements at Ware Street/Yeomans Street.

Tiger Field Grant: The board discussed the schedule for work on Tiger Field. Tiger Field has received a $343,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund Matching Grant to pay for improvements there. (See related story).
Director’s report: Recreation Director Maureen Brown gave the financial report for 2025 to date. Baseball and softball revenues have totaled $17,435 for gates and concession with soccer at $3,544 for gates and concessions. She reported season ticket sales have come to 171 tickets for a total of $5,130. She gave a schedule for district and state tournaments for baseball/softball. District will be held June 12-16 and state will be held June 24-28. Coach Brown also gave an update on state track and field competition results. The director offered congratulations to state discus champion Dathan Thornton. Brook Pruitt was state runner-up in the girls standing long jump and Ava Slusher was the state runner up in the softball toss. Brown also gave information on the golf program and tennis programs along with the schedule for district and state tournaments. She reported on plans for a Brazilian soccer camp to be held starting July 21. Brown also said plans are in the works to bring NFC player Adrian Peterson back this year to conduct football camp.
New Rec Desk recreation app: Rec. Director Brown reported training is underway for the new Rec Desk recreation app. She said plans call for implementing the app for the opening of this year’s fall sports season.
Next meeting: The next monthly meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC) on College Avenue.
