Edith Carol Godwin, 78, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 10, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She now has a new body and she was looking forward to getting it.

She was born August 20, 1946 in Sacramento, CA to David and Regina Evans. She was the oldest child and only daughter. She made me promise not to put lies in her obituary, so I will try. She loved her children and grandchildren. She thought they were perfect but we knew better and no one could change her mind. She was a nurse and loved taking care of others but not so good at taking care of herself. She never met a stranger and would talk with everyone about anything. She had a quick wit about her and always wondered where her children and grandchildren got their smart mouth from.
She had a quirky sense of fashion — she liked what she liked and that was all that mattered. Before her health declined she loved to read and did wonders with plants. She loved watching westerns, no matter how many times she had seen them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Joey and Teresa Godwin, Blackshear Jeannie and Grady Bullard, Knoxville, TN, Vicky and Scott Massengale, Woodland, CA, David and April Godwin, Carmichael, CA, Danny and Toni Godwin, Manchester and Aaron and Christina Godwin, Sacramento, CA; her grandchildren, DJ Godwin and Michael Wilson, Angela and Trey Carter, Christy Bullard, Alex and Kristyn Bullard, Jacob Massengale, Alan Godwin, Regina Godwin, Kyleigh Godwin, Jayden Godwin, Audrey Godwin, Connor Godwin, Liam Godwin, Kami Godwin, Tommy Godwin, Chris Godwin and Jack Godwin; great- grandchildren, Nathan, Abby, John, Cora, Lilly, Jordyn, Piper, Ansley and Wyatt; brother, Earl Evans and lots of nieces and nephews. She had many “children and grandchildren “ that she took in as her own, too.
The family will have a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Lakeview Golf Course in Blackshear.
The family is also planning a memorial service in California around her birthday in August.
