The Ware County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another round of vehicles being illegally entered in the past week, particularly over the weekend.
WCSO Major Neil Skerratt said Monday (May 7) the agency had received reports of more than a dozen vehicles being entered in the past week. These complaints follow a similar number received late last month collectively by the Waycross Police Department and WCSO.
Skerratt said several of the cases under investigation occurred between Friday evening, May 2 and the early hours of Saturday morning, May 3. He said among the items stolen include firearms as well as undisclosed quantities of cash.
A message left Monday with the WPD crime investigation unit seeking information on reports of similar activity in the city during the past week wasn’t returned by press time.
The reports to WCSO have come from Saddle Circle, Hitching Post Lane, Carriage Lane, and E. Waring Street, said Skerratt. The more recent complaints came from the areas of Hilliard Avenue, Columbus Street, Pinecrest Road, Highland Drive, Stonewall Jackson Place and Golf View Drive.
He said the latter group of locations also included reports of firearms being taken.
The major said he couldn’t stress enough for people to lock all vehicle doors, especially overnight. He said if anyone has any information regarding any of the reports or sees anything suspicious in their neighborhood, they’re asked to call 911 immediately.
Also, if anyone has home video surveillance footage they would like to share that pertains to the cases, Skerratt asked they direct message the WCSO Facebook page by the platform’s messenger program. A detective will try to contact you quickly to get it.
