Eight WCHS thinclads and relay team qualify for 4A state track meet

MORROW — Four Ware County Lady Gators, along with a relay team, and four Gators punched their tickets Saturday to the Class 4A finals this weekend with top eight performances here at the Sectional A meet at Morrow High.

Athletes from 37 schools in Regions 2, 3, 4 and 8 gathered for the Sectional competing for eight spots in each of the 18 events contested.

The two-day Class 4A finals are scheduled for Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 in Commerce at East Jackson High School, which is also hosting the Class 2A meet.

The Lady Gators will be represented by Jada Evans (triple jump), Shardell Vickers (discus, shot put), Destiny Finney (shot put) and the 4x100-meter relay team.

The Gators are sending Isaiah Grayer (pole vault), Cameron King (triple jump), Jamar Birden (discus) and David Muchison (pole vault).

Girls’ meet

Evans posted the best finish for the Lady Gators placing third in the triple jump with a distance of 35’5”. The winning mark was 38’9.5” with the top mark in the Sectional B meet set at 40’7”.

Vickers finished fourth in both the discus and shot put. She recorded a throw of 100’7” in the discus trailing the winning mark of 121’4”. The top mark in Sectional B was 126’.

Vickers recorded 35’10.5” heave in the shot put. The winning distance was 39’4.25” while the top mark in Sectional B was 36’1.25”.

Finney finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 33’6.5”. The eighth-place mark was 32’2”.

Ware County’s 4x100m relay team clinched a berth with an eighth-place finish posting a time of 50.05 seconds. The winning time of 47.59 seconds was bested by Sectional B’s time of 47.44 seconds.

Amaria Dukes finished 13th in the 400m event with a time of 1:04.41. The winning time was 59.01 seconds with an 8th-place time of 1:02.53.

Both the 4x200m relay team and 4x400m relay team placed 13th. The 4x200m clocked a 1:48.15 trailing the winning time of 1:44.33 and the eightplace time of 1:46.13.

The 4x400m relay team logged a 4:41.80. The winning time was 3:58.73 with an eighth-place time of 4:12.51.

Lailani Carson placed 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 31’1.5”. The eighth-place mark was 34’7.5”.

Jada Conaway finished 15th in the 100m with a time of 12.94 seconds. The winning time was 12.11 seconds with an eighth-place time of 12.62 seconds.

KeMya Crowley had a leap of 14’4.25” in the long jump finishing 15th. The winning mark was 18’4.75” with an eighth-place distance of 16’4.75”.

Boys’ meet

Grayer recorded the best finish for the Gators placing second in the pole vault clearing 12’. The winning height was 13’6” with a mark 11’6” winning Sectional B.

King placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 45’8.5”. The winning distance was 46’7.5” with 48’4.5” taking top honors at Sectional B.

Birden finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 146’5” to trail the winning mark of 187’3”. The top mark in Sectional B was 157’10”.

Muchison was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 12’ besting the eighth-place height of 11’6”.

Adarius Brown placed ninth in the high jump clearing the bar at 6’, the same mark as seven others. Brown was eliminated by total number of scratches. The winning height was 6’2” while Sectional B’s height was 6’.

Birden finished 10th in the shot put with a heave of 43’1.25” to trail the eighth-place mark of 43’10.5” by 9.25”. The winning distance was 57’8.5”.

Davion Jones placed 12th in the high jump clearing 5’10”. The eighth-place height was 6’.

The 4x100m relay team posted a time of 44.11 seconds to place 12th. The winning time was 41.70 seconds with an eighth-place time of 43.41 seconds.

Ware County’s 4x400m relay time was clocked at 3:54.15 to finish 13th. The winning time was posted at 3:22.01 with an eighth-place time of 3:25.09.

The Gators’ 4x800m relay team’s time of 9:48.91 was 15th in the field. The winning time posted was 8:12.51 with a eighth-place time of 8:23.89.

King finished 15th in the long jump with a distance of 19’5”. The winning mark was 22’9” with an eighth-place mark of 20’11”.
