ADEL — Brantley County tied for seventh here at Circlestone Country Club in the Area 1 Division I tournament.
The Herons posted a 381 team score Monday, April 28 to tie Fitzgerald for seventh in the nine-team field.
Berrien clipped Thomasville by three shots (327-330) to captured the team title. ACE Charter earned the final state tournament berth placing third with a 337 score.
The trio will be joined by Area 2’s Toombs County (330), Commerce (331) and Swainsboro (340), Area 3’s Elbert County (315), Banks County (335) and Rabun County (336), and Area 4’s Gordon Lee (312), Bremen (321) and Model (336).
The two-day state tournament will be held Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20 at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course in Elberton hosted by Elbert County.
ACE Charter’s Mason Clark and Worth County’s Gamble Montgomery tied for medalist honors with rounds of 75 in the field of 57 players. No information was available of which linkster won the playoff.
Montogomery will advance to participate in the individual field. The lowest score of a non-qualifying state finals team earns a spot as an individual player in the championship field.
Trailing the top three were Worth County (337), Jeff Davis (343), Bacon County 365, Brantley County and Fitzgerald, and Bleckley County. Southwest Magnet School in Macon and North-east-Macon each had twoplayer suads.
Brantley County was paced by the O’Quinn twins, who took a break from the top-seed tennis team, to participate in the golf tournament.
Tucker O’Quinn shot 39-41-80 tying for fifth with Berrien’s Bray Moore. Patrick O’Quinn was a shot back carding a 40-41-81 to finish in a three-way tie for seventh with Berrien’s Jonah Barber and Thomasville’s Charles Ward.
Colton Johns posted a 50-54-104 to tie for 44th with Matthew Evans of Thomasville.
Dalton Hickox shot 57-59-116 to tie teammate Noah Smith (53-63-116) for 50th-place.
