‘Takedown’ Club to aid high school wrestlers

The Bears will have a new “Takedown Club’ at the high school next year.

While the name might raise some concerns, the organization will actually benefit Pierce County High School’s wrestling team.

The school board approved creation of the Takedown Club at its regular meeting Monday night.

During a presentation at last Thursday’s school board work session, PCHS Athletic Director Brandon Jernigan gave an overview of the new booster club.

Inaugural officers for the group include Dan Driggers as the applicant and fellow members Shelby Altman, Ethan Crosby and Danielle Shumpert.

The club will purchase uniforms and equipment and will help pay for fees and travel for the wrestling team.

The booster club has set up an account at Georgia’s Own Credit Union and anticipates an annual budget of up to $20,000.

Planned fund raisers include a pheasant shoot, car wash, bake sale, hosting tournaments and holding raffles.
