In an show of support to the communities they serve Memorial Satilla Health has partnered with Waygreen to purchase 12 hydroponic grow towers for the nonprofit’s Community Food Park, located at the corner of Riverside Drive and E. Blackshear Ave.
Waygreen will purchase 12 new towers to grow salad greens and other produce that will contribute to their Family Farm Share program.
With grant funding made available through Georgia Organics, WayGreen’s Family Farm Share provides a weekly, low cost fresh food share to families of young children. Currently 60 families in Ware, Pierce, Bacon and Brantley counties receive these shares.
The hydroponic towers are the newest edition to Waygreen’s Community Food Park which also features raised beds, in-ground crops and fruit trees. All produce is grown organically, without the use of pesticides and fertilizer, and volunteers cultivate the garden. Waygreen aims to grow the food park through grant funding and hopes to provide additional services, including educational events, in the near future. Memorial Satilla and their parent company HCA Healthcare have a stated commitment to creating healthier communities through volunteering, charitable donations and partnering with other organizations. Family Farm Share increases access to local, in-season and healthy food while educating families about how to prepare and enjoy their weekly share.
