A Waycross man died early Saturday morning, April 26 from injuries suffered when he was ejected from his pickup truck after it left Ga. 520 and rolled several times, Ware County Sheriff’s Major Neil Skerratt said.
Wilson Allen Gaskin, 64, of the 700 block of Homer Street, died at Memorial Satilla Health after being transported there by Ware County EMS with injuries from the 12:40 a.m. accident, said Skerratt.
Ware County Sheriff’s Patrol Sgt. Craig Colley responded to an accident with injuries on Ga. 520 about a quarter mile east of its intersection with the Ga. 4 bypass, according to Skerratt. Upon arrival, Colley found Gaskin lying on the ground at the side of the road.
Patrol Deputy Hunter Thomas responded to the scene and rendered aid to Gaskin before the arrival of Ware County Fire & Rescue and Ware EMS, the report said.
Colley observed several skid marks on Ga. 520 that indicated Gaskin was traveling east on Ga. 520 when he lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado, the report said. The pickup left the left side of the road, overturned several times before coming to rest on the right side of the roadway, the report said.
Ware EMS requested a helicopter to evacuate Gaskin from the scene, but later canceled it because he couldn’t be stabilized enough to be flown, the report said. Gaskin was then taken to MSH where he succumbed to his injuries.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Austin Edwards handled investigation of the accident.
