Lady Gator linksters finish 4th at Area 1 tourney

ATLANTA — Ware County’s Lady Gator golf team will have one more chance to qualify for the Class 4A state tournament after finishing fourth at the Area 1-AAAA tournament.

The Lady Gators shot 277 Tuesday, April 22 at the Wolf Creek Golf Club. St. Pius X copped the Area title with a 260 team score. Wayne County was second with a 265 and was followed by Marist’s 266.

Trailing Ware County were Druid Hills (282), Perry (317) and North Springs (392).

St. Pius X and Wayne County secured the state tournament bids. Area 3’s qualifiers are Allatoona (267) and Cedartown with Area 4 being represented by Westminster (234) and Cambridge (240). Area 2 has not played.

Marist and the Lady Gators will tee it up at the Class 4A Sectional being held at the Georgia National Golf Club in McDonough. They’ll be joined by Area 3’s Pace Academy (291) and Cartersville (298) and Area 4’s North Oconee (246) and Blessed Trinity (248).

Only one player in the field of 28 broke 80 with a low score of 75. Anniston Grantham shot 46-38-84 finishing fifth to lead Ware County.

Eevy Griffin posted 4548-93 for 11th. Lillie Livingston carded 52-48-100 to tie Finley Harris of Marist for 16th. Kate Thomas shot 54-53-107 to place 20th and recorded the lone birdie for the Lady Gators.
