Dawson Martin, second grader at Patterson Elementary School, is ready to jump in after a week of water safety instruction at the YMCA. All second graders in the Pierce County school system learn basic water safety and swim strokes thanks to a collaboration between Pierce schools and the YMCA, referred to as the Water Safety Task Force or Coalition.
