WCSO and WPD are investigating break-ins of vehicles

A recent increase in reports of vehicles being entered has the Ware County Sheriff’s Office and Waycross Police Department reminding residents to lock their vehicles, especially overnight.

Several of the reports to WCSO have happened most recently on or near Meadow Lane as well as on or near Sunnyside Drive, WCSO Major Neil Skerratt said Monday. He said there have been 15 reports filed since the first of the month for vehicles being entered.

Capt. Greg Young said Monday 21 reports of similar activity have been filed with WPD over the same time frame.

Among the locations involved in the reports to the WCSO are Emma Road, East Myrtle, Steve Street, Lawhorne Road, East Waring Street, Dixie Avenue, Burke Street, two on Wren Drive as well as Meadow Lane, Lark Ridge Road, Skerratt said. He said most have taken place late at night or the early morning hours.

He said Detective Dakota York, Antony Phillips and Kyle Strickland are handling the cases individually and collectively, Skerratt said.

Young, commander of WPD’s crime scene investigations, said the bulk of the reports in the city have been in Cherokee Heights and the area of Spurgeon Street.

The authorities said if anyone has any information or sees anything suspicious in their neighborhood, they’re asked to call 911 immediately.

Also, should any home video surveillance footage that relates to these entering autos be available you would like to share, please direct message the Ware County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page via Facebook messenger.

One of the detectives will follow up with a contact to get the video.

Those in the city with any information or video of vehicles being entered are asked to call (912) 287-2921.
