WAYCROSS — Mr. Richard James Drawdy, Sr., 80, passed away suddenly Friday, April 11, 2025, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.

Drawdy was born in Jeff Davis County to the late Richard Fulton Drawdy and Bern ice Hewett Drawdy. He was a 1962 graduate of Jeff Davis County High School and retired from Pet Dairy following 29 years of employment. Drawdy also worked for Hickman Transportation as a United States Postal Service subcontractor for a number of years.

He was a member of Deenwood Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, played for the softball team, and helped with yard maintenance. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He once competed in a National Bowling Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.

In addition to his parents, Drawdy was also preceded in death by five siblings, Jerol Drawdy, Joyce Shumpert, Wanda Hampton, Delton W. Drawdy and Iris Hipps; and a good friend, Harvey Rawlins.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joann Drawdy of Waycross; four children, Richard James Drawdy, Jr. (Lisa), Regina

Smith (Terry), Robyn Brookshire (Lee) and Rodney J. Drawdy (Janna) all of Waycross; 10 grandchildren, Brooke Pittman (Eric), Kristin Walker, Kylie Knox (Colby), Justin Drawdy (Allie), Brianna Drawdy, Madison Brookshire (Trey Martin), Kaitlyn Drawdy, Rylee Drawdy and Cullen Drawdy; 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Ricky Drawdy (Jennifer) of Illinois; two sisters, Inez Butler of Hilliard, Fla., and Shirley Ammons of Waynesville, Ga.; a good friend, Emory Grantham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 14 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Kettle Creek Cemetery.

Deacons of Deenwood Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
