Ware County High School senior Owen Ashley Hopkins was named the Waycross Exchange Club’s Youth of the Month for February.

The honor recognized Hopkins’ outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and dedication to community service. He stood out among his peers with an impressive record of accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.

Hopkins, the son of Brent and Lindsay Hopkins, is ranked ninth in a class of 356 seniors at WCHS. His academic excellence is complemented by a robust list of extracurricular activities and honors.

A four-year member of the varsity soccer team, Hopkins has served as captain, demonstrating leadership on and off the field. He also is an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, BETA Club, National Honor Society, and Future Business Leaders of America.

Among his many accolades, Hopkins was selected as a 2024 Washington Youth Tour Delegate, received the UGA Certificate of Merit and earned the Presbyterian College Fellows Award. He has also completed Advanced Placement, Foreign Language and Business and Technology pathways at WCHS, earning the distinction of Platinum Senior.

His peers voted him “Most Likely to Succeed,” a testament to his drive and character.

Beyond the classroom, Hopkins has made a significant impact in the Waycross community. As a member of Waycross First Methodist Church, he has contributed to various local initiatives.

During his senior year, Hopkins served on the Waycross Bank & Trust Junior Board and as a Hospice Satilla Ambassador, following a year on the Hospice Satilla Junior Board as a junior. He has also volunteered his time coaching soccer at the YMCA and participating in community events, including fundraising efforts for Cowboys for Kids and the Butterfly Run 5K.

In addition to his busy schedule, Hopkins works as an office and appraiser assistant at Rollins and Hopkins Appraisal, gaining practical experience that aligns with his future goals. He plans to attend the University of Georgia to pursue a law degree, a path that reflects his ambition and commitment to making a difference, school officials said.

“Owen Ashley Hopkins embodies the qualities we seek to celebrate through the Student of the Month program,” said Student Services Coordinator Kim Callahan. “His academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to serving others make him a shining example for his peers and a source of pride for our community.”
