Florida man facing drug charges after traffic stop

NAHUNTA — A Florida man was arrested and charged following a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and Highway 82 Thursday afternoon.

The Nahunta Police Department’s Crime Suppression and Intelligence Unit (CSIU) K-9 Division conducted a traffic stop at approximately 5:15 p.m., April 10.

The vehicle, driven by Tyler Stone Lynch, age unknown, of Sebring, Fla., was clocked traveling 74 miles per hour in a posted 45 mph zone. During the stop, CSIU investigators observed signs Lynch was operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs.

K-9 “Quick” was deployed for a free-air sniff and gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a small quantity of marijuana, a felony amount of Schedule I hallucinogenic mushrooms, and multiple drug-related objects.

The Georgia State Patrol responded and assisted with the investigation. GSP troopers charged Lynch with Driving Under the Influence.

The CSIU investigator additionally charged Lynch with Speeding, Possession of Marijuana less than 1 oz., Possession of Drug Related Objects and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Felony).

“This is yet another example of our concentrated effort to keep the roads in Nahunta safe from impaired and dangerous drivers,” said NPD Chief Brad Todd.

“We are thankful for our strong working relationship with the Georgia State Patrol and will continue partnering with them to protect the families traveling through our community.

Lynch was transported to the Brantley County Jail for booking where he bonded out.
