Carter seeks NCAA wrestling champ title

Special to The Times ASHVILLE, N.C. — Gardner-Webb University graduate student and PCHS alum Todd Carter won an individual championship at the Southern Conference tournament and a bid to the NCAA wrestling championships.

The three-day tournament is scheduled to starttomorrow, Thursday, March 20 in Philadelphia, PA, at the Wells Fargo Center.

Carter avenged last season’s second-place run Saturday afternoon (March 8), earning his first Southern Conference title.

After winning twice Friday (March 7) to make the title match, Carter defeated Shannon Hannah of Campbell 4-2 to win the 141-pound class and earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.

Carter will arrive in Philadelphia with a 19-3 overall record and a Top 20 national ranking next to his Southern Conference championship.

Carter was a three-time state champion for Pierce County.
