Pierce students at top of Okefenokee region

Pierce County students aced the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

System and school results were shared by School Superintendent Dara Bennett at last week’s school board meeting. Her report consisted of two focus areas: content mastery and the single CCRPI score rankings generated by Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA).

The CCRPI is a 100 point scale used by the state department of education to determine how well Georgia’s schools are educating students. Four items now used in determining the index include content mastery, progress, closing gaps, readiness and the graduation rate.

Pierce County’s overall CCRPI score ranking was 88.8 placing it at the top of the Okefenokee Regional Education Services Agency (RESA). Okefenokee RESA includes Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Pierce and Ware counties.

Pierce County’s score was almost a full 10 points higher than the overall score for the state which was 78.9.

Combined scores for Blackshear, Midway, and Patterson Elementary Schools was 88.5, one point higher than Charlton, which ranked second in that category. Pierce County Middle School finished over three points ahead of second- ranked Charlton. Pierce County High School ranked 94.2 percent, a full six points higher than Camden, the secondranked system.

Superintendent Bennett also reported on local students’ performance in the content mastery category. With a score of 88.9, Pierce County elementary schools ranked 14th out of 234 systems across the state and first in RESA. Scoring 81.5, Pierce County Middle School ranked 16th out of 236 systems across the state and first in RESA. Scoring 95.8, Pierce County High School ranked fourth out of 236 systems across the state and first in RESA. Local students also outperformed all nine school districts in the Okefenokee Regional Education Services Agency (RESA) area.

School superintendent Dara Bennett said she is extremely proud of students and teachers in Pierce County Schools.

“We come to school every day ready to learn, and it shows,” she said. “It is good to be able to celebrate our academic success.”
