Sheriff Ramsey Bennett cautions residents to beware of a new scam circulating in the community.
In the scam, residents report receiving a text saying they have a traffic citation or fines or a toll and need to pay to avoid their license being suspended. The texts are a scam.
'Text messages like this are a scam and without merit,' the sheriff said. 'Law enforcement will never contact you by text about citations, fines or anything like this. Please be careful and don't fall for it.'
